De Waard Transport & Logistics: With more customer focus more cargo on the track

Our mission is: sustainable on all fronts. In doing so, we indicate that we are not only striving for a major concern for the environment, as the term sustainability is often used. But at De Waard it goes much further. We strive for sustainable relationships with all our stakeholders in the broadest sense: with customers, with staff, with financiers and suppliers, with interest groups, with politics at all levels and last but not least, of course, also with regard to the environment.
Our entire company and the way we operate is aimed at conserving the environment. We encourage economical driving, which reduces CO2 emissions, full trucks to make as few “ empty ” kilometers as possible, freight exchange, EURO 6 trucks and also the use of the track. We have been Lean & Green certified since 2012 and all De Waard swap bodies and trailers have the motto: “ Road2Rail ” and / or “ Fresh and CO2 less ”. That says enough. De Waard Transport & Logistics can quietly be called a pioneer in the field of rail transport. We have been using the train since 1986, when intermodal transport was still in its infancy. We currently do about 80 shipments per week between the Netherlands and Italy. I am sorry to say that it has been more in the past. In 2010 we started with conditioned transport by train, but that was not an immediate success. Unfortunately, the rail system is not yet designed to quickly anticipate unexpected situations, which is unfavorable for shipments with conditioned or other critical goods. Sometimes we feel that the system is more important than the customer. Obviously, you have to drive the track according to fixed patterns and safety is essential, but with a little more customer focus, much more cargo would shift from road to rail.

We started doing more with conditioned cargo on the Rolling Land strasse. The driver can intervene immediately if something is wrong and we still use the track. In this way we also save the environment. The Overnightexpress to Italy, where goods and travelers went on the same train, was a Valhalla for us. Never any problems and if there were, they were solved immediately. The travelers took care of that. Too bad that train has stopped. During the crisis, De Waard, as an Italy specialist, managed to maintain a fairly stable position. And now, during the flourishing economy, there is again financial growth. Not only through more turnover, but also by paying close attention to fuel consumption, less costs due to damage, more efficient plans, etc. In short, a healthy and profitable company in good times and bad. We stand for continuity and stability. We recognize these daily as the core ‘ Waard’ and of our family business. A stable course is vital, especially in turbulent, dynamic times. We expect to achieve this stable course with sustainability on all fronts. The conclusion, after more than 10 years of continuous commitment to sustainability, is that it has brought us many extras. Continuity with regard to our customer base because of the good and consistent quality that we deliver rests on the personnel front, a good relationship with our suppliers, a healthy financial position, good care for the environment, etc. We will therefore continue to follow the course we have set.
