Rockwool saves 62% CO2 emissions by opting for intermodal rail transport<\/h1>\n[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]\n

Sustainable production<\/h3>\n

Together we create and supply sustainable, fire-safe, acoustic and efficient stone wool solutions for, among other things, the complete building envelope as well as for the cultivation of fruit and vegetables. Rockwool <\/a>acquired Lapinus Roermond in 1971 and new production processes were gradually introduced and production was also expanded. ROCKWOOL rock wool is extremely durable. Not only does it help to create sustainable buildings, it is also sustainably produced and made from sustainable raw materials. It contributes to CO2 reduction and is 100% recyclable.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]\n

LHV for short distances<\/h3>\n

In Roermond, approximately 80% of the rock wool produced is intended for insulation purposes. This is made for the regional market with a maximum distance of approximately 300 kilometers. Because our products have to be delivered to ever-changing construction sites, it is impossible to do this by barge or train. However, we were able to make agreements with our carriers about investing and using LHVs, (Long Heavy Freight Vehicles), so that as few truck kilometers as possible are made. This has led to a 20% reduction in CO2 emissions and we already received a Lean & Green star award in 2008. <\/p>\n

Intermodal transport for medium distances<\/h3>\n

The other 20% of our production are so-called specialties, such as suspended ceilings, rock wool for fruit and vegetable cultivation and an asbestos replacement for brake linings and brake pads. The sales area is much larger for these products and for this we have increasingly started using the barge and the train. The rock wool for fruit and vegetable cultivation is even exported to North America and goes from Roermond by bar and train to the seaports. <\/p>\n

By rail to Sweden, Italy and the South of France<\/h3>\n

Within Europe, Sweden and Italy in particular are the destinations for our specialties and we transport as much as possible by train. To Sweden we do many trailers with the trains of Samskip van Dieren via the Hohenbudberg terminal in Duisburg. To Italy we use the mega swap bodies from Wetron via the Cabooter terminal in Venlo. We are so satisfied with these rail products that we will soon start with the South of France via the terminal in Bettembourg. It goes without saying that we also keep track of the effect of the measures in the field of logistics. Since January 1, we have saved 62% CO2 emissions with our intermodal transport solutions, the equivalent of 10,797 trees.
